The Spare5 app is no longer available, and in this post I am going to share what the Spare5 app was as well as some alternatives to help you to earn money. Spare5 was an app available for iOs and desktop. Complete short micro-jobs from anywhere using your phone and earn money. It was a great app for earning from your smartphone, and in this blog post I will share some other fantastic apps to replace the now defunct app.
The Spare5 App & How To Earn
The Spare5 app was available for ios devices and was created to help you to make some money completing fun tasks in your spare time – hence the name Spare5.
The tasks that were available on the app were a whole host of different kind of tasks – some to help to train ai technologies, some to help with upcoming launches for great companies and some to help with machine learning.
The tasks vary and so far I have seen image tagging tasks (viewing items and then coming up with suitable tags), guessing the price of items and selecting which tags, from a list, are most suitable to an image. The tasks take a few seconds to complete. You can start and stop as often as you need to.
Spare5 payment threshold and method(s)
You couldn't earn much money from Spare5 – certainly not minimum wage for most tasks.
You could unlock higher payouts of extra cash by completing new tasks and sharing your referral link.
The minimum payment threshold was just $5. You could cash out into your PayPal account.
My verdict
I have been using Spare5 for a few years now, and I have been paid on time for tasks completed. When you first sign up, new users wouldn't see any jobs available until they completed a short survey and provided a bit more information about themselves.
Once approved, you would have been able to see a selection of jobs available. Every time I had loaded the app there have been jobs available, so they didn't seem short of jobs at different task levels.
Spare5 Closing
You may have found this blog post looking for more information about Spare5 and a link to sign up.
Unfortunately, Spare5 have been defunct for a number of years now.
Their official Twitter/X account hasn't had an update since February 2018.
Their website also has a 503 Service Temporarily Unavailable message.
Don't worry though, there are some great alternatives to Spare5 listed below!

Getting paid to play mobile games sounds like the dream, and for me it has been a really fun and lucrative side hustle over the past few months – great if you want to stay away from survey sites.
It is something that I really enjoy doing, especially as I love playing games on my smartphone.
Here's how it works:
These games don't pay out in the game, rather you sign up to an earning platform such as Swagbucks or Inbox Pounds and they reward you for completing certain milestones in game.
Other platforms we love include FreeCash and RewardXP.
You could also try out Tester Buddy, but it isn't the best option out there.
These milestones vary – some will pay you for reaching a high level and others will pay in tiers, earning you more rewards as you progress up the levels.
It is a great way to make money with your iPad or make money on your phone.
Earn £150 with Cashback.co.uk (Spare5 alternative)
Cashback.co.uk does what it says on the tin.
Complete 15 small tasks to cashout, with an average pay out of £150.
The tasks involve testing out websites and trials (including free trials) and you complete quick tasks to earn.
Plus you get a £10 welcome bonus when you sign up with our link.
Spare5 alternative – Survey Pop
Complete short and sweet surveys with the SurveyPop app to earn rewards such as Paypal cash and Amazon gift cards.
The payment threshold is just £4, so it is fun to make a goal to cash out every week from this app.
Testing time
Testing Time is one of my favourite websites for earning money from market research studies, focus groups and website testing.
With this Spare5 alternative you get to try out new products, services and websites and give your feedback, then earn cash paid straight into your Paypal account.
There are regular studies as well as surveys and website testing jobs on Testing Time.
Spare5 alternative – Respondent
Respondent is one of the busiest market research websites out there.
You will find plenty of opportunities to apply for and the key is to apply for opportunities regularly! If you can, check in every 2 – 3 days and apply for suitable tasks to stand a good chance of getting picked.
With so many opportunities on Respondent, the chances of you getting picked to complete a study or website test are high.
Spare5 alternative – Pinecone
Pinecone is one of the highest paying survey websites out there, paying £3 per survey, guaranteed.
What's more is that you can often get chosen for bigger and better studies, including product testing and testing new websites.
With product testing you can get free products to try out (in the past I've had loo roll as well as breakfast drinks) which helps you to save money too – and you can earn bonus payments too.
Askable
Askable is another great alternative to Spare5, and I've done a few paid website testing tasks with them.
You can see the eligibility criteria before you apply, and if successful then a researcher will get in touch to set up a date and time for your study.
Influence
Get paid for submitting short video responses to the Influence app.
This app is easy to use and your earnings accumulate quickly – paying out via Paypal.

It would seem that you are paid in dollars. What’s the best way to convert these to £ and is it worth it. Thanks
Hi Roddy, you can do this via Paypal and convert it into £.
