On 26 January 2020 I underwent weight loss surgery at Cobham Clinic, Luton & Dunstable Hospital through Tonic Weight Loss.

Here are my recommendations for products and services that have helped me during my weight loss surgery journey.

Learning

Living with Bariatric Surgery by Denise Ratcliffe was my total Bible before and after surgery. At every stage so far I have picked it up and found something really valuable to read.

Highly Commended at the 2019 BMA Medical Book Awards

Living with Bariatric Surgery: Managing Your Mind and Your Weight aims to help those who are considering bariatric surgery develop a psychological understanding of their eating behaviour and the changes needed in order to make surgery successful. It is also a resource for those who have undergone surgery to help them adapt to the physical, psychological and relationship adjustments that occur.

Whilst the benefits of bariatric surgery are significant, the psychological challenges it presents for patients have been overlooked. This book will help patients develop a realistic view of bariatric surgery and the changes required. It incorporates the real-life experiences of people who have had bariatric surgery, showing how they have responded to the psychological and behavioural changes after surgery, and also features helpful psychoeducation, exercises and strategies to facilitate reflection and learning.

Living with Bariatric Surgery will be an essential guide for anyone considering, preparing for or recovering from bariatric surgery, as well as health professionals working with these clients.

Nutrition & vitamins

Getting enough protein in is a daily struggle, so I have turned to this tasteless protein powder to add to my drinks and meals. Each scoop contains 27g of protein and it mixes well with liquids. The bag is 1kg and you can save money by taking out a subscribe and save subscription.

Advanced collagen capsules to help with hair regrowth, nails and skin. Currently on a ‘buy two get one free’ offer. I take two of these per day.

Tools & equipment

Getting enough liquids after weight loss surgery can be really tough, so I love these water bottles. They will hold 1l of water and have time stamps on the side to keep you drinking. I chose pink, obviously.
