Most people join Vinted thinking it’s simple: list your stuff, ship it, get paid. And for the most part, it is. But there are some very specific rules baked into the platform that can get your account restricted, suspended, or permanently banned if you break them — even by accident. Getting a Vinted ban is no fun, so there are some rules that you need to be aware of.
I’ve seen sellers lose accounts over things they genuinely didn’t realise were against the rules. So this guide is all about the official no-nos on Vinted in 2026, written in plain English so you can sell with confidence and avoid any nasty surprises.
Using Your Own Postage Instead of Vinted’s Label
This is one of the fastest ways to get into trouble. Vinted requires sellers to use the exact label or QR code provided in the app. If you decide to pop to the Post Office and buy your own postage, the platform can’t track the parcel and your seller protection disappears.

Taking Payments Outside the App
Any attempt to move a sale off Vinted is strictly banned.
That includes:
- Asking a buyer to pay by bank transfer
- Sharing PayPal details
- Suggesting cash on collection outside the system
- Sending links to other marketplaces e.g. eBay or Depop
Even hinting at this in messages can be flagged automatically. Vinted wants every payment to stay inside their checkout so buyer protection can apply.
Selling Prohibited Items
Not everything can be sold on Vinted.
Common banned categories include:
- Counterfeit or fake designer goods
- Used cosmetics or opened beauty products
- Medical items
- Weapons or age-restricted goods

Creating Multiple Accounts
Vinted allows one account per person and one account per household. Opening a second account to get around limits, hide poor feedback, or separate selling styles is against the rules. NB. You CAN have a private account and a Vinted pro account.

Misleading Descriptions or Photos
Listing an item as “like new” when it clearly isn’t, hiding damage, or using stock photos instead of real ones can be treated as fraudulent behaviour. This often shows up when buyers open disputes and Vinted reviews the listing history.

Vinted monitors chat for:

- requests to move off platform

Listing items you plan to source later, or copying photos from other sellers, is a big red flag. If you can’t ship quickly with the official label, don’t list it yet.

Vinted responses can include:
- removal of specific listings
- temporary restrictions
- blocked payouts

Can You Appeal a Vinted Ban?
Yes, in most cases you can appeal a Vinted ban, and it’s absolutely worth trying if you believe the decision was a mistake or a misunderstanding. Vinted normally sends a message explaining why the account was restricted, and from there you’ll be given the option to contact support and share evidence.
The key is to stay calm and factual. Angry messages or blaming the buyer rarely help. Think of it like a mini investigation — Vinted just wants to see clear proof of what actually happened.
Example Appeal Message You Can Copy
If you’re not sure what to write, this style works well:
“Hello, I’m writing to appeal the restriction on my account. I believe this may be a misunderstanding. I have always used Vinted’s official postage labels and kept communication within the app. I’ve attached evidence to support this, including proof of postage and screenshots of the conversation. I’d really appreciate a review of my account and any guidance on what I can do to comply fully with Vinted’s rules. Thank you for your time.”
Short, polite, and to the point is perfect.
Evidence Checklist to Upload
Whenever possible, include:
- proof of postage for Royal Mail items
- screenshots of tracking inside Vinted
- photos of the item you sent
- screenshots of messages with the buyer
- any receipts for packaging or drop-off
The more organised your evidence, the faster support can make a decision.
How Long Do Appeals Take?
There’s no live chat, so appeals aren’t instant. From experience, most replies arrive within:
- 24–48 hours for simple cases
- 3–5 days for more complex reviews
- longer during busy periods or holidays

What If the Ban Isn’t Reversed?
Not every appeal is successful, especially if the issue involved off-platform payments, prohibited items, or repeated rule breaks. In those situations Vinted’s decision is usually final. Creating a new account to get around the ban can lead to another immediate suspension, so it’s better to wait for an official outcome and ask for clear guidance on what went wrong.
