Waiting for a Vinted buyer to mark an item as received can feel stressful, especially when you’re watching your pending balance and wondering when you’ll finally get paid. The good news is that this situation is extremely common on Vinted, and in almost every case, nothing is wrong — buyers simply forget, get busy, or don’t realise they need to confirm anything.

This guide walks you through exactly what happens behind the scenes, why buyers often don’t mark items as received, when Vinted steps in automatically, and what you should (and shouldn’t) do while waiting. By the end, you’ll know exactly how the process works and when your payout will arrive when you sell on Vinted.

What To Do If a Vinted Buyer Doesn’t Mark Item as Received

Why Vinted Buyers Don’t Mark Items as Received

There are lots of harmless reasons this happens:

• They didn’t see the notification
• They don’t know they’re supposed to mark it
• They’re new to Vinted
• They thought the app would update automatically
• They forgot (this is the most common!)
• They collected the parcel late
• They haven’t actually opened the parcel yet

In some cases they actually haven’t received the parcel – here’s what to do when that happens.

Most of the time it’s nothing to worry about, and Vinted has systems in place to protect you.

How Vinted Confirms Delivery Automatically

Vinted does not rely on buyers pressing the “Item received” button in order to pay you. The app checks the courier’s tracking instead.

When the tracking shows “Delivered”, Vinted starts a countdown of 48 hours. If the buyer doesn’t press anything at all, your payout is released automatically when the time runs out.

The buyer cannot stop the payout unless they open an “Item Not As Described” case within the allowed window.

When You Will Automatically Get Paid

As long as the tracking shows the parcel was delivered, Vinted will pay you automatically after a 48 hour waiting period.

You do not need the buyer to press anything for your money to arrive after those 48 hours, however getting them to press it earlier frees up your money quicker.

Step-by-Step: What To Do When a Buyer Doesn’t Confirm Receipt

Here’s exactly how to handle it calmly and confidently.

1. Check the tracking inside Vinted

Buyers and sellers both see the same tracking information inside the chat. If the courier shows the parcel was delivered, you are protected and eligible for payout after 48 hours.

2. Give the buyer a little time

Buyers don’t always pick up parcels on the exact day they’re delivered, especially with InPost or Evri SafePlace deliveries. Some wait until after work or the weekend. A little delay is completely normal.

I am actually so bad for this – I might pick up a parcel from the Post Office in the morning then forget its in the car until late that night or I’m in bed!

3. Consider sending a friendly message (optional)

You never have to message them, but if you want to, a soft, non-pushy message works best:

“Hi, just checking your parcel arrived safely. No rush at all to open it, I just hope everything got to you okay!”

Buyers respond really well to this kind of warm tone.

4. Don’t ask them directly to mark it as received

Buyers often feel pressured if you say this, and it can sometimes discourage communication. Let Vinted handle the confirmation automatically.

5. Wait for the automatic payout

If the buyer doesn’t do anything, Vinted will release your money once the confirmation window closes.
This is a 48 hour window after delivery.

6. If the buyer opens a case

This is rare, but if they do, Vinted will ask both of you for information. Because you used the official Vinted postage and tracking, you’re protected. If the tracking shows delivery, you’re usually safe unless the buyer reports a genuine issue such as damage.

7. If the parcel shows delivered but the buyer says they don’t have it

This is usually a courier issue (Evri and Yodel sometimes scan early or leave parcels with neighbours).
Direct the buyer to check:

• Safe places
• Neighbours
• Their household
• Local depots (Royal Mail)

And reassure them that you’re here to help. Vinted will step in if needed.

When Vinted Steps In Automatically

Vinted intervenes when:

• the buyer doesn’t confirm receipt in the allowed time
• the buyer reports an issue
• tracking shows conflicting information
• the buyer hasn’t opened a dispute but the window closes
• the courier marks an item as delivered but the buyer claims they never got it

In almost every scenario, Vinted takes control and resolves it without needing you to chase anyone.

Do Not Contact the Courier Yourself

Everything must go through Vinted.

The courier won’t help you because the label belongs to Vinted, not you, and it can actually delay the process.

Vinted handles courier contact behind the scenes.

You Are Protected As Long As You Used Vinted’s Label

This is the most important part.
If you used:

• Evri QR code
• Yodel QR code
• Royal Mail printed label
• InPost QR code

Then you’re protected by Vinted’s full seller protection.

If you used Royal Mail, always keep your proof of postage — Vinted will ask for it if tracking is slow to update.

How Long Before I Should Worry?

Honestly? You usually don’t need to worry at all.

Here’s a simple guide:

• Tracking says delivered → you’ll get paid automatically
• Buyer silent → you’ll get paid automatically
• Buyer forgets to confirm → you’ll get paid automatically

The only time to worry is if:

• the parcel never shows as delivered
• the buyer opens a case
• you used your own postage instead of Vinted’s (never do this!)

What If the Buyer Claims They Never Received It?

If tracking shows delivery but the buyer says it didn’t arrive, this becomes a courier issue, not your fault.
Vinted takes the lead and investigates.
During this time your payout will be delayed, but as long as you posted correctly, you’re protected.

It’s completely normal for buyers to forget to mark items as received. It doesn’t mean anything is wrong, and it doesn’t stop your payout from coming through. As long as the parcel shows as delivered and you used Vinted’s label or QR code, you’re protected. A little patience goes a long way, and Vinted’s automatic system will take care of the rest.

You can keep selling with confidence — this is one of the easiest parts of the process once you understand how it works.
