Weddings can cost many thousands of pounds, which is why some people cannot afford to have a big splash when they get married. However, there are ways to keep costs down and some things it is worth spending a bit more on.
Getting Engaged
When a marriage proposal is accepted and the couple gets engaged, it is worth spending a reasonable amount when considering engagement rings. This and the wedding rings will be worn for many years and they are both things where you should buy the best quality you can afford.
Once the engagement has been announced and made official, then the wedding planning can start in earnest.
Wedding Guests
Remember that every guest you invite adds a cost to your wedding. You do not need to ask Aunty Mabel’s third cousin’s sister-in-laws brother unless of course, they happen to be one of your close friends. You can save a lot of money by having a smaller and more intimate wedding and are better having a great day with fewer guests.
Ask For Help Instead Of Presents
If any of your guests have a skill that could be useful for your wedding, ask them to donate their talent instead of buying you a gift. You may have a family member that is good with a camera or one who is a part-time DJ. Asking friends and family to donate their talents is a brilliant way to help keep the costs of your wedding down.
Catering
Hiring a firm of caterers is not cheap. You could reduce the cost of food by asking some family members to help you put together a menu for the day. Most moms, aunts and grandmothers would be only too pleased to show off their culinary skills and to wait on the tables when the big day arrives.
With a mixed variety of dietary needs, sometimes providing a buffet-style meal is the best option and that can be even cheaper. They can all still sit down to eat and hear the speeches; the guests will have just filled the plates themselves.
The alternative is to approach a family owned restaurant to cater for your wedding. Generally, family-owned restaurants will go the extra mile for wedding meals and take more consideration of the fact you are getting married on a budget.
Save On The Cost Of Flowers
Flowers are not a cheap part of any wedding but you can save on some of the cost of them by having just a few. Instead of a posy for bridesmaids, let them have a single rose instead. You could even cut these from your own garden possibly, strip them of their thorns and make them look pretty with some tin foil and a bow of ribbon. Keep your own bouquet to a reasonable size to reduce the expense of that too.
There is no end of other ways you can save on some things to do with your wedding so that you can spend more on the things that matter most. But at the end of the day, it is your day and as much as possible it should be how you want it to be.
