When it comes to making money from blogging there are plenty of income streams that you can explore. We know about some of the traditional ways to make money from blogging, such as from adverts, sponsorships and affiliates, but what about making money from the content you create? This little known way to boost your blogging income is perfect for new bloggers who are looking to make some extra money. Here is how to make money blogging by selling your content.

How to make money blogging by selling your content

Here's how it works

You want to create a recipe for your blog, but whilst doing it you take some extra photographs of the finished product, staged with different props and posed in different ways. If you take five sets of finished photographs you have one set for your blog, and four extra sets to sell on.

You list these as ‘semi-exclusive' because you are using one on your blog and selling four others on.

Creating exclusive content

You can also sell completely exclusive content if you would prefer. For exclusive content you can charge a higher fee, but of course you cannot use the content on your own blog or sell it more than once.

What is typically included in a sale?

For a exclusive recipe or DIY post that you are selling you would typically include:

  • Photos of the ingredients
  • List of the ingredients
  • In-process photos (showing how you make the recipe or DIY)
  • A selection of exclusive finished product photos in both horizontal and vertical format; staged with different props, photographed at different angles, etc.
  • Step by step written instructions

It is then up to the blogger purchasing your content to write their introduction and conclusion, do their SEO and add affiliate links.

If you want to check out some listings to see what is included you can see some here.

Upsells

You can also include some upsells in your listings, including but not limited to:

  • Unique introductions
  • Keywork research
  • Uploading the article to WordPress
  • Including affiliate links

And many more.

What type of content you can sell

The type of content that sells well is recipes and DIYs. This is because they are photo based content.

You cannot sell the same written content to other bloggers as this would go against Google guidelines and create duplicate content.

The reason why the semi-exclusive recipes and DIYs aren't duplicate content is because the blogger is writing a unique introduction and conclusion, as well as putting their own stamp on the blog post.

How much can you sell this content on for?

It is up to you to price your content, but I have seen:

Semi-exclusive content selling for $15-$45

Exclusive content starting at $75 and increasing depending on what else is included

Upsells from $5 depending on the time and effort required for the upsell.

Where to sell your extra blogging content

This is definitely more popular in America, with very few UK bloggers doing this.

You can find Facebook groups to sell your content in, which are very popular because they usually have thousands of members looking to buy content.

You can sell them on your own blog using something like Woocommerce.

You can set up gigs on websites like People Per Hour and Fiverr (which you can sign up for here).

What does this content look like?

Here is an example of some content that I purchased:

Witch hat halloween garlic bread recipe.

Let's dissect the post.

The in process photos (on the baking tray) are shared between me and four other bloggers.

The method was provided to me, and I added to it, and changed anything that needed to be changed for a UK audience.

The final photos (of the made recipe on the paper plates) are exclusive to me.

The Pinterest images are made by me, using the photos that I purchased.

There you have it – a great way for new bloggers to make extra money from blogging, and help bloggers like me who are still improving on their photography and are short on time.
