If you are looking to create delicious food whilst spending less on your weekly shop then The Savvy Shopper's Cookbook is for you. With recipes using ingredients from discount supermarkets like Aldi and Lidl, The Savvy Shopper's Cookbook is a must for any frugal cooks.

The Savvy Shoppers Cookbook

Food obsessed Mum, Amy Sheppard, couldn't find a cookbook that met her family's needs, to she wrote one. Going back to her roots in Cornwall, where her mum taught her to cook incredible meals with just a few ingredients, Amy has created a cookbook with quick, cheap and nutritious recipes.

What sort of meals are in The Savvy Shopper's Cookbook?

The Savvy Shopper's Cookbook has something for everyone, with over 80 tasty recipes to choose from.

The cook covers:

  • Soups and snacks
  • Sides and salads
  • Fish
  • Vegetarian
  • Chicken
  • Beef and pork
  • Sweet treats

The recipes include items in sauces as well as meals that don't have a sauce and there is a meal to suit any fussy eaters.

Some recipes include  Caramelised Onion and Goat’s Cheese Tart, Steak and Potato Salad with Creamy Horseradish Dressing, Moroccan Chickpea Curry, and 15-minute Apple and Blackberry Crumbles.

What else you'll find in The Savvy Shopper's Cookbook

As well as great tasting and frugal recipes in The Savvy Shopper's Cookbook, you will also find general money saving tips from Amy – I especially like the tip about buying frozen fish. There is also a shopping list, one week meal plan and conversion tables.

You won't find recipes for throwing fancy dinner parties, but instead you will find family friendly meals to suit your budget.

What we've cooked from The Savvy Shopper's Cookbook

We've had this book for a few months now, which has given us the chance to try out a few different recipes.

My absolute favourite is the chicken, potato and chorizo traybake. It uses cheap chicken thighs from Lidl or Aldi, and the chorizo gives it great flavour and depth.

This is definitely one we are going to enjoy a lot over the autumn and winter months.

Another one that my husband, Tony (find him at Thrifty Husband) was keen to try was the tinned tuna meatballs. I can't stand the thought of eating warm tuna, but he really liked them.
