Winter is on the way. Winters are pretty dark and cold anywhere, without even adding in the fact that the cost of living crisis is going to make it even worse. The price of bills is increasing more than we could ever have imagined and there will be hard decisions to be made by everyone. We are all on the lookout for things that we can do to save some money and it is going to be more important than ever before to follow these tips. Let's have a look at how to save money with jobs for the winter.
Turn down your thermostat
One of the best ways to save money is by turning down your thermostat. It can be all too easy to get into the habit of turning up our thermostat if we are feeling cold. However, when you turn it up, you are spending money. Most people don't feel the difference if the thermostat is turned down a degree or two. Keep it at a comfortable level, or if you are looking to save money, drop it a couple of degrees to save extra cash and use our next tip to stay warm. It's a great idea to turn off radiators in rooms we are not living in too. Put your thermostat in the room you spend most of your time so that is the place which reaches your desired temperature. Use the settings on your thermostat to change when your heating comes on and off. Maybe have it go off earlier in the evening and even come on later in the morning. These little adjustments will save you cash. You can even use a smart thermostat which will help save you money and you can adjust from your phone when you are out and about. There is no point in your heating coming on if you have to stay late at work one night.

Layer up
Next on our list of jobs for the winter is to layer up. Simply relying on heating will not keep us as warm as we can be. Get those winter clothes out of your wardrobe and start using them. Add an extra t-shirt under your jumper, wear a second pair of socks and look into thermal long johns. Adding layers helps to warm the air between the layers, hence keeping us warm. If you are sitting on the sofa watching TV, put a blanket over your legs, cuddle up with loved ones to share body heat and add an extra blanket to your bed at night. Use what you have, you could even put sleeping bags over your duvet to keep you warm.
Switch stuff off
How often do you leave the room and forget to switch the lights off? Maybe you shut up your home office at night and leave your computer switched on. Turning everything off when we aren't using it will save us money. Putting things on standby still consumes power so if you can switch appliances off and shut them off at the wall too, you will eliminate power usage. Relay this message to the rest of the family too. It needs to be a combined effort and it will stop you from getting annoyed, walking through the house switching off lights. Of course, you will still need to cook and you'll want to binge-watch that latest box set, just switch things off when you are done.
Add curtains & insulate
So much of your energy escapes through windows. This is where adding thick curtains and insulating your property is a huge bonus. Getting this done is one of the important jobs for the winter so we can feel the benefit from that first frost. Thick curtains keep the warmth inside, loft insulation stops heat from escaping. Insulate your water pipes, look into cavity wall insulation and plug those drafty gaps around your windows. The majority of homes have insulation but most could be improved.
There are so many jobs for the winter that can help save us money this year. Get them done in plenty of time and it will help keep your bills lower.
