Can I help you to save on your bills?

I saved £134.36 per month by switching. Get a no-obligation quote AND up to £400 paid towards any early termination fees.

I love finding new ways to make money, and this one has completely blown my socks off! Whilst it isn’t a get rich quick scheme, it is something that everyone can do to make some money towards their bills every month. Introducing ZIPZERO.

What is Zipzero?

ZIPZERO is a receipt scanning app, like Receipt Hog and Shoppix that pays you back 1% of each receipt that you upload.

There is no restriction about what kind of receipt you upload either, as long as it is from a UK-based retailer you will get rewarded.

Unlike other apps where you can claim your earnings via PayPal or gift cards, ZIPZERO lets you add certain bills to your account, and you can use the money you have earned to pay towards bills.

The bills you can pay include utility bills including water, gas, electricity, telephone, TV, Internet and council tax. We have used it towards our council tax, but I do wish there was a chance to use it towards mortgage overpayments, as this is an area we really want to work on in 2020, once we have moved. There is nothing to stop us from transferring the amount ZIPZERO has paid off our council tax into mortgage overpayments though.

There is a cap of £50 per month (which means spending £5,000 a month) – so if you have big purchases to make then it might be worth spacing them out if you can.

How to use Zipzero

The ZIPZERO app is really easy to use. Simply download and sign up, then you are good to go.

You can start scanning receipts before choosing a bill or bills to pay, so you can get started straight away whilst you look for those bill payment account details.

The camera is really good – the best one I have seen on a receipt scanning or cashback app so far.

Once you have reached £1 in earnings you can pay towards a bill.

You will need the sort code, bank account number and your reference number before you can contribute towards a bill. This was the most time-consuming part for me because I couldn’t find a paper bill anywhere, and then finding the payment details online was difficult too.

What if you usually pay bills by Direct Debit?

I know this can be a little bit confusing, but if you pay bills by Direct Debit you can still use ZIPZERO. If you use ZIPZERO towards a bill that you pay by Direct Debit then the next Direct Debit (usually the following month) will be lower to take into account the payment you made using ZIPZERO. Easy!

I earned £6.50 towards my council tax bill

Our council tax bill is usually £163 per month, and I decided to put my ZIPZERO earnings towards that.

By simply scanning in our receipts from recent purchases we have earned £6.50 towards our council tax bill, which is just shy of 4% of this month’s bill.

As I mentioned, I would love to see mortgage payments as an option on ZIPZERO for those of us who are working towards mortgage overpayments.
