I get a lot of emails every day, and one question that I get over and over is “why aren’t you publishing your online income reports anymore?”. I have decided to answer that question in the blog post, as well as talk about when they might be back.

Why I don't publish my online income reports any more (and when they might be back)

Why I published online income reports

I published my first online income report in October 2015, where I earned £2,825.59 online. My primary reason for publishing online income reports was to motivate and inspire you, my readers, showing that there are real ways to make money online.

At that time I was still working full time, so sharing my online income didn’t feel too private. I still had my full time wage, and my husband’s wage, which we kept to ourselves. Sharing all of our income online might land us in couple’s therapy!

The benefits of publishing online income reports

As well as helping my readers and motivating them, there were also some added benefits to sharing my online income reports: they brought lots of people to my blog which helped me to make more money.

Online income reports also helped me to prove that I was living what I was sharing on my blog – I was doing the very things that I promote, or write about.

The downsides of publishing online income reports

There are also some negatives to publishing online income reports.

The first one is that is it quite a lot of information to put out there. Some people have even called it crass. Now that our entire income comes from online endeavours, including blogging and running an eBay store, income reports would allow someone to know exactly how much money we have coming in.

Another downside is that some people don’t believe the amounts that they see on online income reports. I have never lied in an online income report, and whilst my goal isn’t to please everyone on earth, having people make public attacks against me and my online income reports was pretty draining.

Income reports also take a really long time to write. It is hard enough to keep up with accounts, but to then have to do them by a certain date, and copy all of that information over to a blog meant that it would often take me more than half a day to put together my online income report.

Why have I stopped?

I wish I had some cleverly crafted reason for stopping my online income reports, but when January 2017 rolled around, I couldn’t bring myself to write my online income report for the previous month. There was no one big reason, I just didn’t feel like it.

I thought I might feel like it in February…and I didn’t. Now, 10 months later, I still haven’t had any inclination to write an online income report.

During this time, I have been able to focus on growing the business into a six-figure business without feeling the pressure from my online income reports. I haven’t been worried about anyone’s opinions; worried about anyone thinking that the figures had been inflated. I was able to focus 100% on growing the business. Which is exactly what I did.

Will the online income reports return?

Maybe.

I’m still mulling it over, and I am undecided about whether to bring the online income reports back, and if I do bring them back, whether to just focus on parts of my income (such as matched betting, side hustles or eBay reselling) or whether to include our entire business as a whole.

With the time they take to put together, instead of putting one together I could be produce more great content for you – whether it is a blog post, a challenge on my mastermind group or a YouTube video.

And have you ever wondered how much money is enough?

  1. Thank you for this very honest post! Your income reports were the main factor that got me into side hustling, and later blogging, so I’m eternally thankful to you for that. But I totally understand why you wouldn’t want to publish them any more. I do publish income reports but my online earnings are still very low and I still feel uncomfortable about it sometimes. It must definitely feel different when it’s your full time income. I think you have to protect your privacy and do what feels right for you.

  2. It makes me sad that people have had a negative reaction your income reports, they were one of my favorite posts to read and I found them to be inspiring! Some people are so mean! Keep up the good work.

  3. You have no obligation to share that sort of personal info, Emma! Don’t put yourself under pressure to bring them back if you don’t feel it’s right for you. They were right for the blog at the time. 🙂

  4. You’re entitled to a degree of privacy frankly! So it’s entirely up to you. Now that the business is your only income, to publish it all would be very exposing. However I like the idea of publishing a type of income by way of an encouragement to us readers.

  5. Your early income reports are enough to inspire others. No need to share your current ones unless you want to. Best of luck to you.

  6. Hi,

Do you run any training program to teach matched betting?

I am very much interested in doing that but bit scared and want to that under an expert’s guidance. I can offer 10% commission on my winnings.

    Regards,
    Peeyush

    1. No I don’t but I have loads of posts on matched betting and how to do it. Are you part of my Make £1000 by Christmas Facebook group? I have a video inside that I explained all about matched betting.

  7. Income reports are my favourite posts, they are so inspiring. I can totally understand why you stopped. It sucks when you’re trying to help others and they just send negativity your way.
