Focus groups are a great way to boost your income by giving feedback on a variety of topics, from your personal banking to testing out new apps. These studies pay anything from £20 – £100+ for your time and feedback, depending on the complexity and the length of the study. Thanks to COVID-19 there is one good thing to have come out of this – the studies has mostly moved to online market research studies. These paid research studies can be completed at home, usually using video conferencing technology, like Zoom.
How much can you earn from paid research studies?
The amount of money you can make from online market research really varies, although it is usually based on the length and complexity of the study.
For example, my husband completed paid research in the form of a video diary that took him about 90 minutes in total to complete over two weeks, and he earned £60 for taking part.
I have earned £25 for an hour phone call testing out a website prototype, and £400 for a 6 week long study.
For paid research studies you can either make some pocket money or some serious cash.
How are you paid?
Every paid study will have a different payment method based on the market research company and the study.
Typically you will be paid via BACS into your bank account, or Amazon vouchers. There are lots of other places to earn Amazon vouchers if you are interested.

How to apply for paid research studies
Typically you could apply for online market research by registering with market research companies first.
You will then either be emailed when they have a job they think will match your profile, or there will be a sort of ‘job board' for you to apply to.
You won't be eligible for every market research opportunity you apply for, so it is worth taking some time to apply for jobs on a regular basis.
Are studies still running despite the pandemic?
Absolutely!
A lot of these studies usually happen face to face, however with the COVID-19 pandemic studies are moving online to be completed by the participants remotely.
There are still plenty of studies going ahead at the moment which have already been budgeted for, so it is a great time to get involved.
