There's nothing more exciting than making home improvements whether it's in your bedroom, living room or your kitchen it's always a great way to feel re-energized inside your home. One of the key components of any room is the flooring. Flooring has such a huge effect on the atmosphere, temperature and aesthetic of the room and can really make or break the interior design. Flooring can quickly add up to be quite a large expense but if you plan ahead and are intentional you don't have to break the bank to build your dream kitchen! Here are 5 tips to saving money on your kitchen flooring.

1. Have an idea in mind

You may not have the full picture in mind for how you want your kitchen to look fully, so make sure you take time to plan it out. Do you want the design to fit the rest of your house or will your kitchen have an iconic standalone design? Planning ahead will make sure you're not wasting time, money and resources on an idea that you may not end up being happy with. Also, make sure you know what budget you have going in and if your budget doesn't match the flooring you want, consider holding off and making some extra money on the side.

2. Do your research

Finding trustworthy floor suppliers can be difficult so I'd recommend doing your research long and hard before you choose your supplier. If you spend the time doing your research, you should be able to find a great supplier that is local, trusted and affordable. It's better to invest in a company that is trustworthy and will do a good job than to cut corners.

3. Invest for longevity

For something as important as your flooring, I would recommend not going for the cheapest options but instead choosing what will last and fit within your vision for your ideal kitchen. You may be paying more upfront but this will be a worthy investment in the long run. You don't want to cheap out on materials or hire someone who doesn't bring your vision to life and then end up having to pay someone else to fix their mistakes or to add a completely different design.

4. Consider your material

A lot of factors will come into your decision for which material you decide to use for your flooring. You may have a particular theme that certain types of flooring will better fit into but make sure you take into account the practicalities of your material too. If you have pets or children, you will most likely want to opt for an option that is easy to clean and is soft underfoot. Consider how your material will affect the temperature of the room too, tiling can make your kitchen very cold so you may have the added expense of underfloor heating if you go for that option.

5. Ask for advice

If in doubt, ask! Many local flooring suppliers will be more than happy to give you advice, recommendations and a plan of action. It is a subject that not everyone is clued up on so sometimes getting a recommendation from someone within the field can clear up any doubts you may have for your choice.
