There are so many areas of blogging that are essential to creating a successful and well-established blog, from the most obvious being high-quality blog posts that are written well and are honest thoughts or ways to help out and inform your audience on certain topics. Other areas of importance are can include maintaining your SEO, keeping your blog up to date and networking with other bloggers to name a few. One area that simply cannot be overlooked if you really want your blog to shine, however, is the design and branding of your blog.
This is what will set your blog apart from all the others in your niche and it's what will keep your readers coming back to your website and what will attract in new readers. Here are some key areas you need to focus on with my blog's branding and design.
Colour Palette
Your blog and brand should have a colour palette that you should stick to whenever creating your content. This palette needs to be intentional as well, you want these colours to appeal directly to your target audience. That's not to say you cannot use a particular colours, but you need to be mindful of what will appeal to your ideal reader. What type of colours are they typically drawn to?
For instance, many social media apps have blue branding as blue gives off a professional yet calming feeling, whereas many fast food brands have red as their brand colours as it grabs attention and supposedly makes us more hungry! Experiment with different combinations and see what works best for you.
Fonts
Fonts are often overlooked when it comes to branding and it's such an integral part of making your blog stand out, Blogging by nature is dependant on your writing so you want to make sure the fonts you use in your logo and on your blog itself speak to your readers. Again, take into account the type of audience you wish to attract when selecting the fonts for your blog. If you want to attract wedding based readers, for example, a Script Font would be a very popular choice in this niche.
Like colours, you're not limited to any style as I've seen blogs make unconventional fonts really work in their favour, again it is something you should experiment with. The most important thing is to make sure that all the fonts you use for your brand pair well together. You want a balance of decorative fonts for your main text and then strong sans serifs for supporting texts within your posts.
Imagery
Your imagery will be what really speaks to your readers as we can process visual information within a split second as opposed to text which your brain needs time to process. With that in mind, as previously mentioned you want the imagery used within your posts and websites to attract your ideal readers and to compliment your brand's colours and fonts. Look for images with similar colour palettes to your main brand colours as a starting point and you should be able to find a theme.
Take the background of the images into account too, generally, photos with lighter backgrounds perform better but don't be afraid to experiment until you figure out what works for you!
