If your business requires computers for day-to-day operations, it is important that you allot a good budget not only for the PC components, but also for their monitors. Is it really that important, you ask?

Actually, for some companies, having the best PC monitor could make or break their business. Here are some scenarios where this would be applicable:

Monitor for Multimedia and Creatives

Any sector that relies on multimedia for their business to operate has to invest in the best monitors the company can possibly afford.

This is because many of the tasks of graphic designers, architects, photographers, video developers/editors and other artists in various creative fields require a computer that can provide the highest image quality and most accurate image colors. This is only possible with advanced monitors that have:

  • Resolutions at least full HD or Quad HD (4k displays)

  • IPS display panel, since this type of panel offers the deepest of blacks and brightest of whites, providing artists with highly accurate colors and also wide viewing angles.

Video production artists require monitors with fast response times of 5ms (or less) to prevent any potential motion blurring or a phenomenon called ghosting, wherein a faint trail of the former images is left on the screen.

Monitor for Gaming

If you are a professional eSports gamer, a game development company, a gaming agency, or even someone starting from the bottom up, a reliable monitor can help bring your gaming experience to the next level and improve your skills in doing so.

For a gaming monitor, specifications are also advanced. For example:

  • Resolution should be at least 1920 x 1080 Full High Definition (FHD). If you can splurge for an 840 x 2160 4K or Ultra High Definition (UHD) and have the budget to support it with an advanced graphics card, then go for it!

  • Technology like AMD FreeSync and NVIDIA G-Sync works with any kind of PC and enhances the performance of your graphics card (whether you’re using AMD or NVIDIA graphics card) and improves the refresh rate between the display and GPU.

  • The monitor’s refresh rate (the number of times your monitor updates with new images each second) should be around 60Hz or faster.

  • The monitor’s response time (the time it takes for the monitor to shift from one color to another) should be around 5ms or faster.

Monitor for Live Streaming

When it comes to professional gamers who live-stream their games for a living, the monitor specifications above can also be applicable.

The only difference is the monitor setup: would you be interested in ultra-wide monitors? Or do you prefer a dual-monitor workspace instead? If you choose the latter, are you open to vertical monitors, or would you rather stick to traditional horizontal displays?

The added space or monitor could be used for online chat, OBS preview, and other tasks that used to disturb the gamer’s online gaming on his/her main monitor.

Monitor for Medical & Radiology Use

Sometimes, choosing the monitor for business could mean life and death.

When it comes to medical use and radiology (that deals with x-rays and other imaging results), having a monitor that can provide exceptional image clarity and quality is absolutely essential.  If you want to learn more about the different types of medical imaging such as X-ray, CT scan, MRI, or ultrasound and their applications in the field of radiology, check out this website. They provide comprehensive information and resources for those interested in this fascinating field.

The most important feature of medical-use monitors? The resolution should be at least 4k UHD (for crisp imagery and accurate colors), so technicians and doctors will be able to diagnose medical conditions more effectively with high-resolution x-rays and scans.

Two other considerations to take a closer look at are brightness and contrast:

  • Brightness – Find a monitor that can accommodate medical standards. For example, The PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication System) standards recommend a minimum brightness level of 420 cd/m2 for mammograms and 350 cd/m2 for radiology.

  • Contrast – You’ll need monitors with at least 600:1 contrast to be used for viewing x-rays and medical scans.

Monitor for Multi-purpose Use

If your business isn’t involved in creatives like graphic design, but requires computers for day-to-day tasks, you have some leeway when customizing your company’s PC needs.

However, to future-proof your investment and be able to use the PC monitor for several years and get every cent of your money’s worth, choose displays that are with:

  • Full HD resolutions

  • LED or IPS panel type

  • Monitor size about 27 inches (or higher)

  • Multiple numbers of ports (for easy connectivity)

  • Accessories that would make the job of employees easy, such as a built-in camera, built-in speakers, built-in USB drive slot, and so on.

As a general rule, always determine your purpose for the computer before settling on a particular model.

How Much Should I allocate for my company’s PC monitors?

You don’t have to choose the most expensive model all the time. Every category of monitors above will have a cheap but good option

You just have to determine your business needs, and look out for the right specifications that would accommodate your company’s requirements.
