Have you ever wanted to buy something on Vinted, but the buy button doesn’t appear? Are you scratching your head wondering ‘how come Vinted won’t let me buy this item?’. If you’ve found yourself in this situation then we have discovered why, and are sharing it within this blog post.
What is Vinted?
Vinted serves as a platform for the purchase and sale of unwanted items.
Vinted has three primary objectives:
- Simplify selling – effortlessly earn money by listing your preloved items, providing a convenient way to make money using your phone or iPad.
- Shop intelligently – discover beloved brands at significantly reduced prices compared to the recommended retail price (RRP).
- Engage with the community – participate in Vinted forums or personalize your product feed to focus on the items you truly desire.
The Vinted app is accessible on both iOS and Android platforms.
Why won’t Vinted won’t let me buy?
There are a few reasons why Vinted appears to not let you make a purchase – sometimes you won’t even see the ‘buy’ button, and other times it will just redirect you to a chat with the seller.
Shipping options don’t align
When selling on Vinted, sellers can choose the shipping options that are convenient for them.
The shipping options available on Vinted are:
- 24/7 InPost Locker Pick-up
- InPost Home Delivery
- EVRi Home Delivery
- EVRi Parcelshop
- Yodel Store to Store
- Yodel Store to Door
- DPD Pickup
- Royal Mail Standard 2nd Class
However, if the buyer has selected shipping options that aren’t available in your local area then you won’t be able to view the buy button on the Vinted item.
You can get around this by asking the seller if they would consider using a different shipping option so that you can make the purchase.
Did you know that the shipping methods you select also determine how to sell on Vinted without a printer?
Trying to buy a beauty item
Wondering ‘why Vinted won’t let me buy this beauty item?’ then it is for a similar reason as above – the shipping options for beauty items don’t align.
Sellers often don’t know that some shipping methods don’t allow the transportation of some beauty items, so Vinted have a blanket ban on using some shipping methods for items within the beauty categories.
For example, you can’t use Evri on Vinted to ship beauty items.
If the seller only has those ‘banned’ shipping methods selected then you won’t see the buy button on the item.
You can get around this by asking the buyer to choose a shipping method such as Yodel, or asking the seller to change the category of the item.
Vinted won’t let me buy something, it just takes me to the chat
You’ve found something that you would love to buy on Vinted, and the buy button is there. You press is and you’re just taken to a chat with the seller.
This can be so frustrating when it happens, and there are a few things you could try to get the buy button working again.
- Update your app. Check your app store to see if there is an update needed, and if so, update the app.
- Restart your device.
- Log out and in again of the app.
- Force close the app.
- Delete and reinstall the app.
- Try making the purchase on the Vinted website instead of the app.
