It is no secret that I love a bargain, and pound shops can offer great value for money. Whilst some people think they are filled with tat, there are always some great bargains to be had. Let’s take a look at what to buy at Poundland, as well as some extra tips to help you save even more.
Batteries
Pound stores used to be notorious for selling batteries that wouldn’t last, however these days you will find brand names of batteries in a pound store for a fraction of their usual cost. Poundland stock Kodak batteries in various sizes including AAA, AA and those annoying 9V rectangle ones that cost a fortune to replace. Not at pound shops though!
Reading glasses & sunglasses
Reading glasses from pound stores are a great budget find and are comparable to more expensive options available. In order for sunglasses to be sold in Europe they need to have a CE mark, showing that they allow no more than 5% of UV rays below 380 nanometres to get through. That means that your £1 bargain pair could offer the same protection as much more expensive pairs.
Cleaning products
When it comes to choosing what to buy at Poundland, cleaning products are high up there. Cleaning might not be much fun and having to fork out for expensive products can be frustrating. Pound stores stock a whole host of cleaning products from their own brands to big brand names. Astonish in particular is a really popular cleaning brand, and the products are vegan too. Their products can be found in a variety of stores including pound shops.
Toiletries
Getting your shower gel for £1 might seem like the same price as everywhere else, but you can often find big branded names in the toiletry aisle, but once they are gone they are gone! These usually cost £7.99 or more in the likes of Boots and supermarkets, but when you spot them in pound stores it is worth snapping them up. That's why toiletries are listed as something to always buy at Poundland.
What to buy at Poundland: Makeup
Pound shops often buy in excess makeup or leftover stock, meaning that you can regularly find branded products in store for a fraction of the cost of buying these from the likes of Boots or other high street retailers. When popping into Poundland be sure to have a look through the makeup selection.
Drinks on the go
Buying drinks on the go isn’t very budget friendly, but if you are caught short and need to buy a drink then a pound store is a great place to go. Whilst convenience and cold bottles would set you back around 2 for £2+ in supermarkets, a pound store allows you to get 2-3 for £1. A lot of pound stores have drinks cabinets now, so you will even be able to enjoy a cold drink for a fraction of the price at a supermarket.
Craft supplies
Whether you are a craftster or you are looking for activities to entertain little ones, pound shops have a great selection of craft items. Poundland often stock official Disney papercraft items including blank cards and stickers, meaning that you can make a Disney scrapbook for a fraction of the cost of hobby stores.
Vacuum bags
Vacuum bags are something that you don’t know you need until you have them. You can put clothing, bedding and other textiles into these bags, then use a vacuum to suck out the air. They shirk as you suck out the air, meaning they take up a lot less room than before. They are great for organising your home, storing out of season clothing and taking on holiday.
Party items
If you are throwing a party on a budget then you can’t beat the prices in a pound store for party essentials. Whether you need table coverings, plates and cups, confetti, balloons, banners or something else, pound shops stock a variety of these products at a bargain price. Don’t forget to check out items for hen parties too.
Seasonal products
From St Patrick’s Day to Christmas, pound shops have a vast array of items to choose from. Whatever the season you will find items dedicated to the festivities, and often they are dupes to higher end and higher priced stores like The Range and Next.

Good one you’ve forgotten Emma – packaging! I always recycle jiffy bags etc where I can, but stock up on brown paper, tape and sometime packing bags in poundland.
Yes! Such a good one too. We would bulk buy jiffy bags from Amazon for the business but its great for brown paper too.
I always love seeing what you get at Poundland and used to love watching the videos you did. I’ve got some great stuff from there over the years.
Thanks Lucy!
I love pound shops, this actually brought back memories of when I used to own one! It sounds sad but Astonish was one of my most popular lines! And padded envelopes as above, haha. Brown tape, paintbrushes, photo frames, reading glasses, loads! I love seeing what’s on clearance and been snapped up by Poundland too.
