Horse Racing

Horse racing and Ireland go hand in hand, AP McCoy, we're looking at you! St Patrick's Day falls during Cheltenham Festival and the third day of the horse racing event is affectionately known as St Patrick's Thursday. The festival itself features loads of well-known races such as The Betway Queen Mother Champion Chase, with the Thursday's notable race The Ryanair Chase. Then you've got Gold Cup day on the Friday. There are also lots of Irish horses, jockeys and trainers to back if you fancy a little bit of betting on the horses.

St. Patricks Day Party Ideas

Guinness & Cocktails

Is there anything more Irish than Guinness? This is perfect on the next of our list of St. Patrick's Day party ideas, Guinness, and cocktails. It could even be one of the reasons why St. Patrick’s day went global. How about getting the family together and celebrating the day with some drinks? Guinness is massively associated with Ireland and it's great by itself. However, if you fancy a cocktail night, there are lots of cocktails that you can use Guinness in. Theme your cocktail evening with colours of the emerald isle and you've got a party that everyone will enjoy! Drink sensibly and have lots of fun!

All Things Irish Scavenger Hunt

How about getting dressed up in fancy dress and hosting an all-things Irish scavenger hunt? If the weather is good, hide thing around the garden. If the weather is rubbish, you can still enjoy fun indoors. Think about everything to do with Ireland and St Patrick's Day and hide things for everyone to find. Cuddly Leprechauns, soda bread and maybe even a four-leaf clover. Throw some green lollipops out there are well. You could even challenge the contestants to Irish dance as they hunt. We're expecting lots of pots of gold, maybe even chocolate coins if there are kids at your party.

A Family Get Together

Ireland does family really well. So simply getting your family together for a get together is a great way to celebrate St Patrick's Day. We're thinking some classic rugby on the TV, an Irish stew for everyone to feast on, along with lots of green party food and drink as well. Make sure U2's greatest hits are on your sound system with The Cranberries and The Corrs on standby. Before the get together, you could even do a bit of digging into your ancestry. Do you have some Irish blood in your veins? This could be a great thing to unveil at your party!
