How has your week been? I've had a great week and I’m linking up with this Cass, Emma and Becky in this week’s ‘Five Fabulously Frugal things I’ve done this week’ linky, from ringing Sky to seeing the Aldi Easter range.

1 – I called Sky to query a high bill

For very boring reasons, the Sky TV at my Dad's house is in my name. For TV alone (no line rental or broadband) the bill was £70 a month, which is a crazy amount of money! I called Sky this week to query it, and found out that there was an add on that my Dad doesn't use or need. Not only did I cancel it, but Sky also issued a credit as an apology for putting it on in the first place! It took about 20 minutes to sort, and I also used WeQ4U to make the phone call free.

2 – The 1% at a time challenge

This week I blogged about my 1% at a time challenge. The idea is simple – you take a debt or a savings goal and you divide it by 100. For instance, if you needed £1,000 for something, divided by 100 that's £10. You then look for 100 ways to earn or save £10, and tick it off a sheet as you progress.

I use this challenge for a lot of things, and this week we reached the half way point on one of our savings goals. This is such an incredible feeling!

3 – Saved money on our grocery shopping

This week a coupon for £6 off a £40 shop at Tesco arrived in the post, and although we weren't planning on spending £40, we got clever about it. We used cashback apps like Checkout Smart to bulk out our shopping and used the £6 off coupon to buy 24 cans of Coke Zero. What's more, I even filmed it for YouTube, which you can view below:

4 – I listed a lot of stuff on eBay

We set ourselves some pretty high goals for eBay listing, which we got nowhere near, but I still tried to get stuff listed every single day this week. We now have 107 items listed on eBay, with lots more to be listed!

5 – I went to the Aldi Easter preview

On Wednesday I headed to two blogger events with Charlotte from Lotty Earns, a baking class which I'll be telling you all about soon, and a preview of the Aldi Easter range. I can't tell you how excited I am about some of the Easter products that are already in stores now. I had a great time decorating a cupcake and sampling Easter chocs, and we were also kindly gifted a goody bag.

One of my favourite items is a bunch of 100 daffodils for just £4.99, with 50p from every sale going to the Teenage Cancer Trust. Our house is now covered in daffodils!

I hope that you've had a wonderfully frugal week too!

  1. 1% challenge sounds really motivating, and I’m looking forward to reading about the baking class. I went to a chocolate making event once, and that was huge fun!

  2. The 1% at a time challenge- not heard of that but think it’s a fantastic way to break down your goals… and absolutely smash them!!

  3. I LOVE LOVE LOVE your 1% challenge idea – it’s exactly what I need as that sort of thing motivates me!

  4. I’m loving the 1% challenge, going to get your printable and give it a go. I think it will be really helpful paying off our annoying 0% credit card balance.

  5. I can’t believe that it is nearly Easter time scary how fast time is going.
I love how you break things down the 1% challenge is are really good idea, and when you explain it like you have it doesn’t seem as bad. xx
