Gardening can be an expensive but rewarding hobby. I have been enjoying Charlotte's extreme garden makeover and I love planning our garden. Whether you garden for beauty, to stop insects or for food you learn that the cost of a garden can become very expensive rather quickly. One great way to help cut the cost is to look for free garden stuff. Whether you are on the look out for free garden furniture or other free garden items, I am going to share some of the best gardening freebies with you.
Free coffee grounds for your garden
You can snag free used coffee grounds from Starbucks to give your garden a nitrogen boost. This free fertilizer is a great addition to your garden and can be added directly or used in your compost for an even better free fertilizer.

Keep an eye on local Facebook groups and the Facebook Marketplace for gardening freebies. Earlier this year we were able to get free paving slabs from Facebook – all we had to do was go and collect them. Paving slabs easily cost from upwards of £2.75 each, and getting 30 for free saved us at least £82.50. Our hot tub now sits on top of them.
You will always find someone donating something they no longer use, so it is a great chance to get free garden furniture and other free garden stuff. Check in regularly or even post a ‘wanted' ad asking for the items you are looking for.
People might be getting rid of the left over items from a project, including things like edging, fencing and soil.
Don't forget to give back when you can, and if you are in a position to offer gardening freebies once you have finished with an item then do so.
Garden freebies from Freecycle and Gumtree
Freecycle and Gumtree are great places for finding garden freebies.
You will be able to join your local Freecycle group and look for people advertising their unwanted garden stuff for free. You will usually need to collect the items.
Upcycle your free garden items
A great way to get free things for your garden is to upcycle things you have available.
You can upcycle items already in your garden, or get items that are being donated or thrown out.
Many things that are being thrown out would make great planters and additions for your garden. Cribs can be turned into a trellis, pretty pots with cracks can be upcycled into planters, and even old chairs can make a decorative base for a potted plant.
Don't be afraid to pull out some paint and have some fun with the things you find.
Make gardening friends
Make gardening friends that you can trade seeds and plants with. A good gardening friend will often be willing to spare a cutting or two for you to add new plants to your gardener for free. If you don't have a gardening club in your community start one of your own to make a great opportunity to score free plants and seeds as well as share your abundance.
Join garden center loyalty schemes
I love a loyalty card and many garden centers offer their own loyalty scheme.
Not only can you earn points every time you shop, but could also be sent coupons and vouchers in the post, including some freebies. It is well worth taking a moment to sign up to them for gardening freebies.
Check out Eddington House Nursery for great plants.

I like the tip about coffee grounds! I think I read once that coffee shops have to get rid of the grounds somehow and they like people taking them off their hands. Maybe you could build up a relationship with a local non-chain coffee shop too? We’ve got a couple of family run shops in our town.
Our local Morrison’s cafe give away coffee gounds too.
