Getting started with investing can seem daunting, but with so many of us interested in investing, I am so excited to share this fantastic competition with you, where there are £28,000 worth of prizes up for grabs and you get to have fun playing with the stock market – without actually buying any real stocks! If you are interested in investing or in taking part in competitions then keep reading to see how you can nab a top prize of £15,000, or weekly prizes of £500 (T&Cs apply) by taking part in a Fantasy Share Picking Game.

The Fantasy Share Picking Game

The Fantasy Share Picking Game is run by Fidelity in conjunction with This Is Money, and it is now back for a second year running.

All you have to do is sign up and pick a minimum of six stocks to get started with. Then every week you can add up to 10 new stocks to your fantasy portfolio.

Although you aren't actually buying any stocks, your performance will be judged on how those stocks gain or lose over the 12 week period.

The prizes

There are some fantastic prizes on offer this year, which include:

  1. First place – £15,000
  2. Second place – £5,000
  3. Third place – £2,000

There are also 12 weekly prizes of £500 up for grabs, awarded for the top-performing share pick of the week.

The Fantasy Share Picking Game Key Dates

The Fantasy Share Picking Game kicked off on Monday, 14th September 2020 and will end by the close of trading on Friday, 4th December 2020.

Who can you compete against?

Not only can you compete against your friends and family members, you will also be competing against some Fidelity experts like Tom Stevenson as well as two quizmaster celebrities. That's right, you can go up against Anne Hegerty and Shaun Wallace, from a hit TV quiz show, over the 12 weeks that the competition runs for.

How to play the Fantasy Share Picking Game

Getting involved is really easy, and you don't have to actually buy and sell any shares (at a cost to you) to get involved.

All you need to do to get started is sign up and then pick a minimum of six shares from FTSE All Share and FTSE 100.

You can then choose to play the game exactly how you would handle owning, buying and selling real stocks. You could sell your fantasy stocks to get more money into your virtual pot, or to cut your losses if a stock is taking a nosedive. Just like real stocks and shares, if the price of a stock goes up when you hold it then you make a gain, and if it goes down whilst you hold it then you will make a loss.

Every week you can pick a maximum of 10 new shares – over 12 weeks that's a lot of shares to choose from.

Your fantasy portfolio's gains and losses will then be used to determine your performance. The winner will be the player who has the greatest aggregate gains over the 12 weeks of playing.

You can read more about how to play, plus the game rules.
