If you’ve been thinking about selling on Vinted but feel a bit nervous about getting started, you’re not alone. Most people feel overwhelmed the first time they open the app. I remember feeling exactly the same — convinced I’d press the wrong button, or accidentally sell something for 50p, or somehow send a parcel into the void. Fast-forward to today and I’ve made over £10,000 on Vinted and sold more than 2,000 items, purely by learning what works, what doesn’t, and how to make the most of each feature.

The lovely thing about Vinted is that it’s actually very beginner-friendly once you understand the flow. This guide walks you through everything you need to know, step by step, in a way that feels practical, simple and encouraging. No jargon. No confusing rules. Just real-life advice from someone who used Vinted as a genuine side-hustle and still uses it today.
What Vinted Is (And Why It’s Brilliant for Making Extra Money)
Vinted is an app where you can sell clothes, shoes, kids’ items, beauty products, toys, home décor and so much more. Think of it like a digital car boot sale… except cleaner, easier, and you don’t have to stand on a windy field at 6am. Some people use it to clear out their wardrobes; others use it to resell items they’ve sourced cheaply. It works beautifully for both.
The best part? Vinted is completely free for sellers. Buyers pay the small “buyer protection fee”. You keep what you earn. And that’s a huge reason why people are able to make good money on it.
How Selling on Vinted Works (Step-by-Step)
Let’s break it down so you know exactly what happens, in the exact order it happens.
1. Create your account
Download the app or visit the website, tap “sign up”, then sign up with Google, Apple, Facebook or your email address – that’s it!

2. Set up your profile and username
Your username doesn’t need to be clever — just something you’re happy with. If you want ideas, my Vinted username generator is a fun place to start. Add a short bio too. Something warm and simple like “Quick shipper, pet-free home, selling great-quality items” helps build trust instantly.
3. Choose what to sell first
Start with items already in your home. Clothes, shoes, bags, kids’ bits, small home items, even books. They all do well. If you want inspiration based on what actually sells best (and for the highest prices), my best things to sell on Vinted list is helpful.
Pick out a small batch of items — maybe 5–10 — so you don’t overwhelm yourself.
4. Give each item a proper condition check
Before you even think about taking photos, take a minute to really look at each item. Hold it up to the light. Check seams, cuffs, collars, labels, hems, buttons and zips. Look for bobbling, faint stains, tiny holes or loose threads.
This isn’t about talking yourself out of selling something. It’s about making sure you photograph and describe the item accurately. Buyers genuinely don’t mind flaws — things with marks, small holes, light fading or missing buttons still sell — as long as you show them and say so.
This also stops awkward return requests later, and it helps you build a reputation for honesty.
5. Take your photos
Photos are the number-one reason an item sells quickly… or gets ignored. You do not need fancy equipment. Honestly, the best setup is:
• daylight
• a tidy background
• your phone camera
• either a hanger, a flat lay or you wearing the item
Natural light near a window is your best friend. Avoid yellow lighting and dark corners. Open blinds, pull curtains, turn off overhead lights and let the daylight do the work.
Take photos of:
• the front
• the back
• any details (zip pulls, logos, embroidery)
• the label or tag
• any flaws
• the fabric texture (great for knitwear and denim)
If you want a full walkthrough with examples and tips for getting bright, clean, click-worthy photos, my Vinted photo tips will help you get it right without any equipment at all.

6. Write your description
Buyers want clarity, not poetry. A good description answers the questions they’d ask if they were holding the item in real life.
Include things like:
• condition (“great condition”, “light fading”, “small mark on sleeve”)
• fabric (“stretchy jersey”, “100% cotton”, “soft knit”)
• fit (“relaxed fit”, “true to size”, “oversized style”)
• measurements (“pit to pit 20 inches”, “length 25 inches”)
• lifestyle notes (“pet-free”, “smoke-free”, “washed once, never worn”)
Measurements are a huge trust-builder. They reduce returns and help your listing stand out against others that haven’t bothered.
If you want help writing descriptions that feel natural and convert views into sales, my Vinted description guide is a great starting point.
7. Set your price
Your price needs to feel fair — not too cheap, not too high. Look at what similar items are listed for. Consider the brand, condition and how popular the style currently is. Remember: you can always adjust your price later.
Most beginners underprice because they assume Vinted is only for bargain hunters, but honestly? Plenty of people pay £10–£25 for a nice item. Some brands go for more.
If you want help finding the “sweet spot” price, my pricing guide tells you exactly how to check demand and avoid undervaluing your items.
8. Choose your postage option
This is where beginners often panic — but it’s simpler than it looks.
Buyers choose THEIR preferred postage method, and Vinted gives YOU the exact postage label or QR code to use. You can’t choose something different. You can’t buy your own postage. You must use the option Vinted gives you because it links directly to their tracking system.
If they choose Evri → you use the Evri QR code
If they choose Royal Mail → you print and attach the Royal Mail label
If they choose InPost → you use the InPost QR code
This is how your item gets tracked, and it’s how Vinted knows when to release your payout.
If postage still feels confusing, my postage guide breaks it all down really simply.
9. Publish your listing
Tap “upload” and you’re officially a Vinted seller. Woohoo! Buyers can now favourite your item, message you with questions or buy immediately.
10. Respond to likes, messages and offers
When someone likes your item, think of it as a warm lead. They’re interested — they just need a little nudge. Sending a 10–20% discount is one of the easiest ways to convert a liker into a buyer.
My offers guide explains the best times and strategies to use.
11. Pack and send your item
Once your item sells, pack it securely using a strong mailing bag. Wrap delicate items or jewellery so they don’t get damaged in transit. Seal the parcel well.
If you’re not sure what bags to buy or which sizes work best, my mailing bag guide has tried-and-tested recommendations.
Then take it to the correct drop-off point and either scan the QR code or attach the printed label.
What Buyers Pay vs What You Keep
Here’s the breakdown:
Buyers pay → item price + postage + buyer protection fee
You receive → the full item price
No seller fees at all. This is why Vinted works so well for beginners — it’s low-risk, low-stress and high-reward.
Can You Really Make Good Money on Vinted?
Yes. Please don’t fall into the trap of thinking you can only make £1–£2 per item. I’ve regularly sold dresses for £10–£15, jeans for £8–£12, kids’ bundles for £10–£20, and coats for £20–£40+. Some months I’ve made hundreds.
If you want inspiration, my best things to sell list is a goldmine.
