3 Ways to Make Money Online

This post may contain affiliate links. Affiliate links means that sometimes if you click through to a website and register or purchase something, we may get a commission from that sale at no extra cost to you. Click here to learn more.

Whether you want to devote most of your time to an activity like traveling the world, you can't stand working for anyone or you simply want to spend more time with your family, you might be wondering how you can make money without having to clock in on someone else's schedule. Finding a way to make money online allows you to be location-independent. Below are three ways that you earn wherever you are.

Day Trading

You need a reliable connection and a reliable computer if you are going to be successful as a day trader. This option requires more work from you than most of the others below, but you can earn a great living. To get started, you should decide whether you want to focus on stocks, futures markets or the foreign exchange market.

These are listed in descending order of investment that you will need. Day trading stocks will require you to begin with a substantial amount of money while you can start out in foreign exchange with under $100. You'll also need to find the platform that you like best and a reputable broker. Once you get started, you don't need to work all day, but you do need to set aside two or three hours per day for focused trading when the markets are open.

Writing E-Books and Courses

Writing e-books and courses requires a certain amount of effort up front, but if you set up courses that essentially run themselves, there is very little work afterwards. With e-books, it is mainly a matter of promotion and making any necessary updates. For courses, how much work you need to put in is largely a matter of how you design the course. Some may be very hands-on while others may be set up for self-study.

As to what you should write about or teach, the answer is nearly anything. You probably have some skills with value that you do not recognize. That might be woodworking, auto repair, programming, writing, gardening or almost anything else that you can think of. When you create your course or write an e-book, think carefully about the audience. For example, writing or creating a course for beginning gardeners will be very different from one aimed at more experienced one or focused on just one aspect of gardening, such as lasagna gardening. When you are finished, get feedback from others to see where you can improve your book or course.

Affiliate Marketing

Becoming a successful affiliate marketer is the dream of those who truly want to only work a few hours per week, if that much. You can make a few cents per quarter or thousands of dollars. Affiliate marketing is an excellent form of passive income in which you make money from people following the links on your site to make purchases. If you become a respected brand within your niche, this can be very lucrative. For example, if your passion is rock climbing and you get a reputation in the rock-climbing community as knowing your stuff, people will be more likely to follow your gear recommendations.
