In early August my husband and I made an offer to purchase a house, which was accepted. Whilst we await out completion date we are aware of some of the upcoming costs in relation to our house move, from fuel to buying new items for the house. The house we have bought is 18 miles away from where we live now, which doesn't sound like much, but each journey to move our items or to meet with handymen is going to be a 36 mile round trip. We are going to turn our extra spending on fuel into Nectar points because we want to save them up to redeem the points on new pots and pans for our new kitchen, to help us save money when we buy new items for our new home. In this post I am sharing how to earn Nectar points with Esso.
Esso Nectar loyalty programme
The Esso Nectar loyalty programme was introduced in June 2019 and allows Esso customers to earn Nectar points when they swipe their Nectar card or use the Esso App – not just on their fuel purchases, but also within the shop and even on carwashes at participating Esso branded service stations.
You will earn one Nectar point for every litre of fuel, two points for every £1 spent in the shop and two points for every £1 spent on the carwash at participating Esso branded service stations.
There are over 1,200 Esso-branded filling stations across Great Britain, meaning you shouldn't be too far from one. You can check if your nearest Esso station is participating here.
I have already looked for participating Esso filling stations and there are two that we can choose from between our rented house and the house we are buying, so there are plenty of chances to fuel up and earn Nectar points without going out of our way.
We can also pop into the shop for anything we need on the go instead of taking time to visit a large supermarket. We will be so busy with the house move that being able to grab food, drinks and other essentials on the go will save us a lot of time – and help us to earn Nectar points for our new kitchen pots and pans.
What to spend your Nectar points on
There are so many great rewards that you can spend your Nectar points on. They include, but are not limited to:
- Dining out
- Days out
- Cinema tickets
- Travel
- Money off in participating supermarkets
You cannot spend your Nectar points on fuel.
The Esso App and Nectar
Setting up the app is really easy to do. It only takes a few minutes to do! Simply download the app and fill in your information, remembering to link up your Nectar card to the app. Then when you next visit a participating Esso branded service station you can use the app. Park at the pump, open up the Esso App and it will find your location, then you need to select the pump you are using to refuel with. You can choose to pay via Apple Pay or Paypal, then just fill up as you usually do.
Once complete you will get an email receipt and the Esso App will also tell the cashier that you have paid for your fuel so that you can just get on with your journey.

For every qualifying purchase of £5 or more on shop items such as milk or snacks at participating Esso Stations, customers will receive double the amount of Nectar points, simply by swiping their Nectar card at the till when they pay.
