When it comes to your food shop, after any rent or mortgage payment, it can be one of your biggest expenses believe it or not. You only have to watch programmes like “Eat well for less” that often it is the hidden costs that we forget all about. You may think you spend a certain amount each week, and while you may do that one big shop, what about the other expenses you make it when it comes to food. Lunches out? Take out coffee? That sneaky Chinese takeaway on a Friday night when you can’t be bothered. Not to mention the visit to the shops when you have ran out of bread and let’s remember that often it is impossible to just buy what you need when you do have to go. Total it all up and you may be shocked to see how much you actually spend on food each week and potentially what you are wasting. I wanted to share with you some tips to help bring that cost down.

Could You Really Save Money On Your Food Spend Each Week? I Say Yes

Cook from scratch

It goes without saying that cooking from scratch will ultimately save you money, and so if you do enjoy those takeaway meals why not look into recipes where you can create them at home instead? It can be a fraction of the cost, be healthier for you and overall help you to save money. Cooking from scratch doesn’t need to be a chore either, if you have a slow cooker this can often take away the hardship of cooking up a meal as it can cook all day and be ready for when you need it.

Use codes and coupons to bring the total cost down

There will always be ways to keep the cost down of the food shop, and one way to do it is to save money on weekly food shop with vouchers, codes, and using loyalty points that you save. Using these things at the check out may seem like more hassle than they're worth, but actually they can significantly bring the cost down for your food shopping.

Plan your meals

There is no hiding from the fact that if you plan you are much better prepared and this can be said for food. Planning your meals each week means that you only buy what you need. It is also a great way to use up what you may have already lurking in the kitchen cupboards. Sauces you forgot about, pastes or seasonings to jazz up boring meals.

Avoid waste

Finally, try and avoid waster where possible by dedicating a day for using things up. Having this in your meal plan means you can’t avoid the leftovers you have ready and waiting. It will encourage you to be creative with ingredients, and stop throwing things out and using them up. This action alone could save you a whole days spend when it comes to food, and can often be the easiest way to save each week on your food shopping.

I hope that his has given you some incentive on how you can save money on your weekly food shop.
