One of the perks of being self employed is that I now have a little more time for our neglected garden. This year we are aiming to tame our garden, making it both functional and pretty! To keep me accountable I would love to share our progress with you.
It has been a slow start, with lots of things cropping up! The weather lately hasn't been great either, meaning we haven't done as much as we would have liked, but it is always a work in progress.
One of the biggest projects I have been undertaking is to paint our garden table and chairs pink thanks to some paint we were sent from Johnstone's Garden Colours range. I opted for Vintage Rose to bring a pastel colour into our garden. This whole project has been a complete labour of love, taking a lot longer than I anticipated! We have 6 chairs to paint and I've had to do at least 3 coats on each chair. I try to fit in a few minutes of painting where I can, but it has been a hard slog. My plan is to finish painting everything and then distressing it with sandpaper.
We were also sent some cute gardening gloves – the blue pair are from Wilkos and are just £2! What a bargain. The string is from Poundland and featured in one of my Poundland posts, it is incredibly useful and I will be reusing the tin! I am loving the addition of solar powered lights in our garden, with these solar fairy lights and LED lantern lights. What I really want to get is a bench for the bottom of the garden, and to put the fairy lights in the trees! If you have trouble with your trees and need advice, find The Local Tree Expert in your area.
I'll let you know how I get on with this and whether I find a suitable bench for the area.
I love these solar powered glass jar lights, sent by Wilkos. The bottom is heavy meaning that I'm not worried about it smashing to the ground when there's a bit of wind. I also feel confident leaving it out in the rain. I'd love to get some more of these in different colours, I think they look great and add a pop of colour.

I can't get over how well the XHose jetwash attachment has worked on our patio! I plan to use it once more after I've finished painting the table and chairs.

Isn't the National Trust set cute? Don't forget you can get free stuff for your garden.
There is so much more that we are planning to do with our garden and I am really excited to bring you some updates. For example, I think we'd like our own fire pit at some point.
I think we have missed the boat for planting our butternut seeds, but I'm still going to give it a go using the Stewart electric propagator. This is great for getting your plants going and I'm hoping we still get to enjoy some home grown butternut this year.

Don’t forget that Poundland have some wonderful garden equipment and seeds. At the moment we have potatoes growing in 2 Poundland £1 potato grow bags – this is the 2nd year for these bags. We also have tumbling tomatoes waiting to go in Poundland £1 hanging baskets and I have just picked some early leaves from the radiccio. These came in a Pack of Mediterranean Seeds that included Aubergine, Courgette, Peppers and Oregano. We are also growing beans and rocket also Poundland seeds.
If the weather is fine tomorrow we will edge part of our lawns with £1 bamboo edging from Poundland of course.
Happy gardening!
