UBC Affiliate Scheme Instead of MRR

This post may contain affiliate links. Affiliate links means that sometimes if you click through to a website and register or purchase something, we may get a commission from that sale at no extra cost to you. Click here to learn more.

I’ve just started my digital marketing journey with UBC (and hit almost £1,000 in my first month!) however at the end of February 2025 (exact date to be announced), UBC members will no longer be able to sell the course with MRR (master resell rights) and instead will become an affiliate for the course, earning 90% commission per sale.

For UK members, this means earning approximately £360 per £400 sale – the course is $499 so the price may fluctuate with the exchange rate. UK members can switch over to the affiliate program right now if they want to.

Why the change to affiliate?

A lot of stink has been kicked up by a UK course creator who thought that the minimum pricing model of UBC breaching competition law in the UK and EU.

It is my understanding that the UK course creator had the same minimum pricing model in place and told someone who inquired that they had lawyers involved and it was completely above board, but then soon after they changed their model to no longer have the minimum pricing model.

Personally speaking, seeing someone sell courses off the back of bashing others doesn’t bring me much faith. The number of students in UBC (over 50,000 at the time of writing) compared to the 1,000 on the other course speaks for itself.

Many UK UBC members consulted with lawyers to gain an understanding of whether competition law was breached, and the general consensus was that no, it wasn’t.

The creators of UBC have looked into things and brought about an affiliate program instead of selling with MRR (Master Resell Rights) not only to help this competition law situation, but to bring about some other changes that I’ll cover below.

Perks of the affiliate program

There are some fantastic perks to the UBC affiliate program, on top of the other perks of UBC. They include:

  • Mindset calls
  • Audit calls
  • Tech support calls
  • Guest speakers
  • Giveaways and challenges
  • Promotional discounts and sales
  • More resources and updates

Possibly the most exciting one of these is the promotional discounts and sales – meaning you can boost your own sales when there is a discount on. Previously, UBC was unable to be discounted as it had a minimum resale price.

Are any other courses making this change?

Yes – DWA has also made this change to affiliate program.

‘I’ve only just bought UBC hoping to resell it – what now?’

It is important to remember that with UBC there are essentially two products – an amazing course to learn from and a product to resell.

You can still sell UBC as an affiliate, keeping 90% of the commission that you earn.

You can also learn from UBC and use that to start your own digital marketing journey. You could sell low ticket items, start a new brand, start a passive income with digital products and so more. What you learn in UBC can help you out so much.

‘How can I advertise UBC if no one gets 100% of the profit’

UBC is an amazing course. As someone who has spent thousands of pounds on courses, ebooks and coaching, UBC is high up there!

Remember that buyers will still get the chance to sell the course for 90% commission, and as it is a high ticket product, you can still promote earning £360 per sale (depending on the exchange rate).

‘I don’t want to pay for Stan Store’

Don’t worry, you are just using Stan Store to get your affiliate link – you can then integrate it into Beacons, or any other platform.

‘Can I put the affiliate link onto Beacons?’

Yes! With Beacons you just go to add a product and choose ‘external link’ and then paste your affiliate link in there. You can still upload your own product image(s) and adjust the price.

When someone views the item in your Beacons store and clicks the link, they will be taken directly to purchase it.

‘My marketing relies on showing screenshots of the total of my sales’

That’s fine – you should still get a notification of your sales, or an email, from the affiliate link.

It might mean adding two different screenshots like I have done because I switched from my Stan store to Beacons, like in this reel:

Will the affiliate program still have a payment plan for buyers?

Honestly, we don’t know yet.

Klarna are stepping away from supporting digital products, so there may be something coming with the affiliate program.

‘Okay Emma, I am actually panicking, please give me a step by step list of what to do’

First of all, don’t panic!

I’ve been blogging for 15 years, 10 of those full time. I’ve seen SO many changes over the years and as a digital marketer you need to learn how to pivot.

I can’t tell you exactly what to do, but I can recommend that you:

Sign up as an affiliate straight away. You don’t need to change anything yet, but they will need to approve you as an affiliate so get that started. Sign up here.

Decide when you will make the switch. You can either wait until everyone has to switch to the affiliate program, which will be a date to be confirmed at the end of February, or do it earlier.

Write down what’s worrying you – are you concerned about how you’ll market UBC now the commission is 90% instead of 100%? Are you worried about whether there will be a payment plan? Whatever it is, jot it down.

Ask in the UBC community for clarification and ideas. Everyone is in the same boat and the community will come together! The UBC creators will also be working hard to make new resources to help us out.

List what needs to change in your current automations, freebies etc such as mentioning MRR.

And then start to brainstorm how you’ll pivot your digital marketing business.

You’ve got this!
