If there is one thing that I am extremely guilty of, it is of having too many toiletries and yet still buying more. Our bathroom cabinets (yes, plural) are bursting and I am even using other areas in the house to store our excess toiletries. With this in mind, I have come up with the #toiletrychallenge.
The #toiletrychallenge is very simple – anyone who participates tries not to buy any more toiletries until they’ve used up their current ones – for example, you can’t buy shampoo before you’ve used up all your current bottles of shampoo!
Getting started
The first thing you need to do is to find out how many toiletries you have. It doens’t need to be a fancy spreadsheet and you don’t need to count every shower gel – but putting all your toiletries in one place will help you to sort them out and figure out what you want to keep and what can be donated or even sold.
Toiletries Amnesty
One great way to declutter your bathroom and your toiletry stash is to consider giving unwanted toiletries to those in need. There is a great Toiletry Amnesty Directory including information on whether they are happy to accept opened toiletries. This is such an easy, yet fantastic way to help those in need. Simply go through your toiletries to see what you won’t use and find somewhere local to donate them.
Where to sell toiletries
If you have unopened, high end toiletries to sell then you may want to consider selling them on eBay. Otherwise, you can sell toiletries at car boot sales but there aren’t many other places where you can sell toiletries.
Start using them up!
Don’t go crazy, just use your toiletries as usual, but don’t buy anything new until you have used up the last of your current stash of that particular item.
Get involved
If you are planning in taking part in the #toiletrychallenge then I would love for you to get involved! You can get involved by sharing photographs of your toiletry stash or your empties (the items you use up) using the hashtag #toiletrychallenge. You can also comment below to let me whether you’re going to be joining in with the challenge.
The great thing is that there is no end date. This challenge is about streamlining your toiletry collection and saving money by not buying toiletries you don’t need, no matter how good the offer is!

This is a great idea I have far to many toiletries
Always a good idea! I love watching Empties videos on Youtube and writing my own Empties post every two months. It’s always helpful knowing how much I use up so I don’t over-buy!
I had a good clear out a couple of months ago & always have a few of each item so we never run out of anything but keep it to mens shower gel ladies shower gel, deodorant, toothpaste, shampoo/conditioner & spare sponge each, spare razer blades & handwash. Oh & loo rolls you definatley don’t want to run out of them.
