Your savings are running really low. In fact, you swear there might be tumbleweeds rolling through your bank account. You’d like to boost your savings as soon as possible. One simple way to do that is to take on a side hustle this summer. These are four side hustles you could try:

House Sitting

Homeowners won’t want to leave their places sitting empty while they’re away on vacation. They will need someone to water their plants, collect their mail, and of course, keep the lights on so that no burglars get the wrong idea and try to snatch their belongings. Some homeowners will also need someone to watch their pets while they’re gone. So, they will hire a house sitter.

How do you become a house sitter? Sign up for housesitting websites like TrustedHouseSitters, MindMyHouse or House Sitters America. Doing this will show you all of the house-sitting opportunities in your area.

Dog Walking

Do you love dogs? Then, maybe your side hustle for the summer could be dog walking. You can join a local dog walking service as a part-time dog walker, or you can go freelance and advertise your services on social media. The payments for dog walking varies widely across the country. Walkers in metropolitan areas can expect to be paid more per hour.

Tutoring

School may be out for the summer, but lots of students will still be hitting the books. Plenty of parents will want their young kids to keep their minds active during the summer so that they don’t return to the classroom having forgotten everything from the previous grade. And high school students will want to add more credits to their belts and prepare for their post-secondary endeavors. All of these students will need tutors.

If you think you have the academic skills and the patience to be a tutor, you should do it as a side hustle.

Thrift Flipping

Thrift flipping is similar to house flipping — you purchase something that’s of low value, use your skills to spruce it up, and then sell it at a higher price than you bought it for. Instead of doing this with a house, you’re doing it with furniture!

You can find cheap, old furniture at the thrift store or online marketplace. Sometimes, you might be able to find items set out on the sidewalk or by dumpsters.

Bring the item home and use a little elbow grease to make it that much better. Repair a broken chair leg and unstick a jammed dresser drawer. Strip off faded paint and add a fresh coat in a bold color. Replace tired, worn-out upholstery. There is so much that you can do to make the furniture look brand-new and bring up the price tag.

When you’re done, sell the refreshed furniture online. Be sure to show the before and after pictures to prove your hard work.

Why Should You Boost Your Savings?

You don’t want to leave yourself without any savings at all. If you do, you might not have an easy means to pay off an urgent expense that falls into your lap. Say that your car gets a flat tire, and you need to purchase a spare, or your kitchen sink clogs, and you need to hire a plumber to clear it. You’ll want to be able to cover these urgent expenses right away.

Without enough savings, you might have to borrow funds to cover this type of emergency expense. You might charge the expense to your credit card and try to pay down the balance through your monthly billing cycle. Or you might apply for a personal loan online. With an approved personal loan, you could use temporary funds to cover the expense as soon as possible and then follow a repayment plan afterward. Find out exactly what you need to know about personal loans before you submit an application. This information could come in handy.

Stop leaving your savings account empty. Find a side hustle this summer and use your earnings to fill it up!
