Black Friday is a great time to make use of sales and save lots of money in the run up to Christmas, but it is also easy to get carried away and spend more than you want. Black Friday is happening later this week, on 24 November 2017 and I have teamed up with MyVoucherCodes to share five ways to save money during Black Friday.

The Secret to Saving Money During Black Friday

Remember that although Black Friday is happening on 24 November 2017, the sales extend over the weekend until Cyber Monday, where online stores have their sales. The Cyber Monday sales are also great – we actually purchased our wedding rings in the Cyber Monday sales!

This year we are going to be in America for Black Friday, and I am really excited to see what bargains we can get whilst there. I'll be following these tips to make sure that I don't get too carried away with the amazing bargains to be had.

Set a budget for Black Friday

Setting a budget is the first step to controlling your spending during Black Friday. Remember that a budget doesn't have to be a shoestring budget, but by setting a budget you can choose how much you can afford to spend during the sale.

Do allow a little bit of flexibility in your budget though. Perhaps you were planning to replace your tv in January, but there's an amazing Black Friday deal. If you can afford it and it really is a great deal on something you were going to get anyway, some flexibility within your budget goes a long way.

Write a list

Before Black Friday gets here, write a list of all the items that you need or want to purchase. This means that when you spot a sale you can refer back to your list and decide if you really need that item, or if you are being drawn in by a great price.

Your list can be as specific or as general as you want, and you will be surprised at how much it stops frivolous spending.

Write a Christmas list

As well as writing your normal list, a Christmas list is another must have for Black Friday. Black Friday is also a great time to get our hands on anything you need for Christmas – from your Christmas tree to presents. Write out a separate list of items you need for Christmas and keep an eye out for these items during Black Friday.

Use voucher codes

It blows my mind that not only can you save money from the Black Friday sales, you can save even more money by using vouchers and codes. MyVoucherCodes have a dedicated Black Friday section on their website which is full of the latest Black Friday deals, vouchers and codes to help you get the most out of Black Friday and to save even more money!

Flooring Superstore, Direct Wood Flooring and Grass Direct are all offering Black Friday discount codes, valid all throughout November. They are:

Valid until midnight on the 30th November.

Don't assume it is always cheaper

One sneaky thing that companies might do around Black Friday is to inflate their prices before the sale. One way around this is to write down the current prices of items when you write your Black Friday shopping lists. That way you can tell if you really have found a great deal, or if a product's sale price has been exaggerated.

  1. I will be combining great deals with voucher codes and also using the voucher marketplace Zeek! I’ll also look for additional discount codes. Hopefully this year I can get the Lego VW Beetle and Some cheaper Disney Them PArk Tickets for our holiday next year!
