We love visiting restaurants for meals out, and whilst we try to save as much money as we can by using vouchers or completing mystery shopping assignments, last month we saw our “convenience food” spend reach almost £400! That’s just for meals out and top up shops. Considering we can usually spend as little as £30 on our weekly shop, I was ashamed (and mega annoyed at myself) and I knew this had to stop. Pizza Express at Iceland to the rescue!
There were immediately some easy ways to save money – we have started to take a packed lunch (well, breakfast) with us when we are out at car boot sales and auctions, as well as batch cooking some breakfast egg muffins and other things to grab and go.

All these changes are great, but we still enjoy eating out. We recently had the chance to sample some of the Pizza Express range available at Iceland, and I have to say that we were really impressed.
We got to try out the PizzaExpress Chicken Barbacoa Pizza and the PizzaExpress Carbonara Pasta. I absolutely adore carbonara, and it is one of those meals that I can’t seem to perfect when cooking it from scratch. If a restaurant serves it, there is a high change that I am ordering it! The Pizza Express Carbonara Pasta from Iceland had a lot to live up to!
The Pizza Express Carbonara Pasta had ribbons of egg pasta in a cream and cheese sauce topped with lardons of pancetta. I mentioned that carbonara had a lot to live up to, and I was really annoyed that Tony and I shared a portion because it was delicious! The portions are for one person, but since we were enjoying both pizza and pasta in one evening, we thought it best to share. Nope. Never again. It was amazing, and we will be picking some more of these up for times when we don’t have the time or inclination to cook.
The PizzaExpress Chicken Barbacoa Pizza had a sourdough pizza base, with a tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese, spicy smoke flavour steam cooked chicken breast pieces, spicy sauce, grilled peppers and red onions. We love spicy food, and found this pizza to be quite mild. There was an even distribution of the toppings, and best of all, it tasted great!
How did they compare with the “real deal” in a Pizza Express restaurant? Honestly, we loved them! They offered a true taste of Pizza Express without the effort of leaving the house, and at a fraction of the cost. Pizza Express at Iceland makes a budget friendly alternative.
The pizzas and pastas sell for just £2.50 each, although we grabbed them on a 2 for £4 offer. They offer great value for money, whilst reminding us of one of our favourite pizza and pasta restaurants.
