Lesson 3:

Pen Names: The Easiest Way to Keep Things Separate

There are lots of reasons why you might want to publish under different names on Amazon KDP — and trust me, it’s much simpler than most people think.

You might want to separate your book types. For example, you could publish gratitude journals under one name, scripture or devotional journals under another, and maybe swearing colouring books or more adult humour titles under a completely different name. These audiences are totally different, and keeping them separate helps your books look more professional and cohesive within their categories.

Now, you might assume that means setting up loads of KDP accounts or different email addresses, but you don’t have to do any of that. You can manage everything under one Amazon KDP account.

Here’s how simple it is: when you upload your book, you’ll reach a field that asks for the Author name (and optionally a Company name). You can type whatever name you’d like to appear on your book cover and Amazon listing — it’s as easy as that.

Every single book you upload can have a different author name if you want. There’s no approval process, no need for separate logins, and no limit to how many pen names you can use.

It’s a brilliant way to keep your projects organised and private, especially if you’re experimenting with different niches. Many successful KDP creators use multiple pen names so they can publish in very different genres without confusing their readers — and it really can be that simple.
