Within the past few years, there has been a huge explosion of popularity within the crafting, scrapbooking and embroidery circles. A huge reason for this explosion is thanks to social media and if you’re talented within any areas of these fields, you could be looking at a fantastic business opportunity whether it is a side hustle or a full-time gig can be completely up to you.

How you can make money

There is a lot of demand now for resources to use within crafting, scrapbooking and embroidery and now with online e-commerce being widely available for anyone if you have an artistic and/or design background you can start up your own online shop selling your very own digital products.

What you can sell

The type of products you can sell varies widely from handmade fonts, textures, patterns, and more intricate Monogram svgs files which your customers can customise and download to use as references for their craft and design projects. There is a lot of money to be made now in these types of products and once you’re established you then have the option to do personalised work and charge a higher rate.

Where can you sell your products?

There are a number of ways you can sell your products online.

Your own online store

If you have an established brand already offering your services, you can set up your own online shop directly on your website. Integrating a shop within your website is not a hard process at all. If you’re a WordPress user, simply installing and setting up the plugin ‘WooCommerce’ will allow you to then create products and an online shop on your website. If you’re a Squarespace or Wix user, e-commerce features will be

Online Selling Websites

Your other option is to sell your products via setting up an account on an online selling website. For digital artwork products, some of the best places to sell would be Etsy or eBay or on websites focused on selling digital goods like CreativeMarket or DesignBundles.net. A huge advantage of these online selling platforms can be the amount of traffic that these websites receive meaning you have a lot of potential customers visiting your store so if traffic to your current website isn’t as high as you would like, I’d highly recommend this option.

How to create your digital products

You can create your digital products in a number of ways but my best recommendations would be using Adobe software, Adobe Illustrator in particular. Adobe Illustrator has vast tools for creating graphics and is very easy to learn if you have a keen interest in design. You can use it to make high-quality vector resources that you can then turn into your digital products to sell. You can create great graphics in other programs however such as Canva but if you take the time to learn Illustrator, you’ll be able to create purely original designs that no-one can do. Additionally, if you prefer drawing illustrations online, you can use tools like Canva’s draw online feature to unleash your creativity and full potential to create professional designs

Once you’ve created your first set of products, you’re then ready to launch your store and start your new side hustle!
