We spend so much of our time at work. On average, people spend about 13 years and two months of their lives at work. That's without overtime factored in. Imagine a shift lasting 13 years long! That is a long time. It might not seem like much if you are hoping to live until 80 or 90 years of age. However, during the years where we have a career, we spend about a third of our day at work, a third asleep and another third living life. The question to ask yourself is, does your job make you happy?

Many people say to get a job that pays well. That is important, we need money to pay bills. However, would you sacrifice being happy for cash? There are jobs that make you happy and will also give you a decent income. According to research by The Guardian, engineers have the happiest job in the world. This is closely followed by teachers and nurses. Although this research from from 2015. Well before a pandemic! Think of how you would be happy? What role would make you smile through any potential stress? Which job would you still be pleased about doing at the end of a long day or a night shift? Why would they make you happy? What's the reason? Maybe it's doing something you're passionate about? It could be helping people. These are the jobs that you should be looking at.

Once you've looked at a variety of potential jobs and decided on an area you would like to work within, you need to start applying for roles. Some sectors may require that you have certain qualifications or experience so it might be an idea to get those before applying. However, consider that you'll be doing this for eight hours a day, five days a week, until you retire. These roles will help you prepare and fund your retirement too, don't forget that. Our jobs can bring us happiness and help us prepare for that time we don't have to work, those twilight years where we can experience happiness even more. It's probably time to search for a job which you will love doing in the 9-5 of life.

Would you like to run your own business? Some of the people will massive paycheques are the most miserable in the world. Some of the happiest come home stinking every evening. We are all individual and have different things that make us tick. Different interests, various talents, things that we love doing. One of the best tips I can give you is to find something you love doing and see if there is a way to get paid for it. We live in a creative world, one which isn't just get a job at 16 years of age and do the same thing until you retire. We can change, mix things up and jump from one thing to another if we want. Finding a career path, or maybe just a job for the here and now that makes you happy is important. Find yours.
