Running my own business means that I find it hard to switch off from work. Although we moved the business into office space last year I still find it hard to find a work/life balance, so I am always looking for ways to relax that don't involve being on my phone or seeing any notifications. Here are 5 things I do to relax.
Watching Netflix
Whilst I might not have the attention span for many films, most of the programs I love on Netflix are just 20 minutes long, meaning that I can pay attention to them without feeling guilty about wasting time.
I have worked my way through the following Netflix shows that I can recommend (although some might be more than 20 minutes long):
- Workin' Moms
- You
- Dead To Me
- What If?
And if you have Amazon Prime and are looking for feel good shows I can recommend Life In Pieces and The Bold Type which always leave me feeling uplifted.
Have a bath
It is fair to say that I love being in the water, from cruising to having a bath.
Obviously having a bath is much more achievable than cruising all the time!
Taking time for a bath (and often a face mask) means I am relaxed, and somewhere where I can't be on my phone answering emails or notifications.
Playing games
I love playing games to relax!
My husband is definitely the bigger gamer out of the two of us, but that doesn't mean I don't enjoy my gaming time.
Whether it is a game I play to make money, or typing games to help me improve my typing speed and accuracy, playing games is a great way for me to switch off and relax.
Exercise
When we think about relaxation we don't automatically think about exercising, but I find exercise really relaxing.
Whether it is a walk along the river right outside our back door, going swimming or going to the gym, I find that exercise not only relaxes me whilst I am doing it, but it also helps me to stay relaxed and less anxious.
Reading a book
I really love audiobooks, and whilst I am enjoying them I still love the feel of holding a book in my hands and flicking the pages.
I try to find a few minutes to read instead of scrolling through my phone, and you will be amazed at just how much reading you can fit in when you reach for a book instead of your phone. I love finding ways to save money on books too.
I have been enjoying crime and thrillers at the moment, even though they aren't the most relaxing genre to read!
