5 expenses you’re probably forgetting

Adulting is hard. Not only do we have to cook, clean and go to work, but we have to think about money, too. We budget our rent, bills, groceries and then there’s always a surprise payment we weren’t expecting like a medical bill or vet fee (or, for lawsuits, see: info on lawsuit loans to discover your options). Despite our best intentions, somehow there’s always something we’ve forgotten and all our money is gone.

It’s infuriating not knowing what you’re spending money on, but there are a few small expenses that many millennials typically forget. Are you forgetting any of the following?

Travel costs

For most of us, getting to work costs money. Either you’re driving to work, which means paying for fuel, or you’re getting public transport which you pay for on the go. So, why is it that we often forget the relevance of this little expense? When we get public transport, it seems like an insignificant and small cost, but getting it twice a day five days a week means that it adds up quickly. So, make your money last longer by remembering to budget your daily travel

Gym membership

Whether you’re a regular gym bunny or you forgot you even had a gym membership, it’s a payment we often overlook. Why? Gym memberships are so cheap and flexible these days that they often don’t seem like a big commitment at the time. But, if you’re not going to the gym, there’s really no point paying it. Accept that there are other ways to exercise and move on.

Daily coffee

A coffee here and there never feels like a big deal. Perhaps you always pick one up on your way to the subway or on your routine lunchtime stroll. However, your regular caffeine fix is a significant expense that’s easy to disregard. A coffee a day can easily amount to 20 dollars or more, depending on whether you’re a flat white or pumpkin spice latte kind of person. So, factor it into your budget else you’ll be left baffled at your empty bank account.

Netflix account

You probably spend most of your evenings and weekends mindlessly watching stuff on Netflix. So why do you always forget to put it in your budget? While streaming accounts are often quite cheap, having several on the go can add up. So, add them to your calendar and don’t forget about them. If you’re not using one, pause or cancel it. You can always re-join when you need to binge the latest series your friends are banging on about.

Phone contract

Most of us use our phones more often than the flats we rent. But why do we often forget our phone bill but never forget to pay rent? Don’t overlook the day your hefty phone bill comes out. It could be the payment that floors you.
