Zapper is a similar site to Music Magpie but that usefully also accepts books for sale! This is great as we now no longer have to go for the faff of listing them on Amazon or eBay etc. or feel like we're missing out on an opportunity by using Music Magpie. As well as this, Zapper also accepts CD singles that no other site does. Here's my Zapper review.
How to get started
Getting started is easy – you take some books, DVDs, CDs and games, type the barcodes in and see what prices they offer you. Zapper won't always accept your items but it's definitely worth a go. If you're happy with the prices then you can pack them off, print the Freepost label and then take your parcels to the Post Office where they will be collected for free.
There's no point beating around the bush: they don't accept everything. I've sent off 21 items in the past (including CD singles, a £5 book and a couple of DVDs) and only received £13.99. Admittedly, postage is free and the site is so easy to use that it's still a great money earner. With eBay, it would've cost me probably more than that just to send everything!
Your item list has to total £10 or above before you can submit your parcel. Having said that, I did have to go through roughly 5 large boxes of books to gather enough items to make my parcel, so it can be a rather tedious process. This could be a great money maker if you initially received these books etc. as gifts or for free. Most of the books I sold, were given to us by charity shops because even THEY couldn't sell them…so there's some real tat there. I did find that they accepted some DVDs and CDs that Music Magpie had denied.
In terms of the posting and payment process, I posted my parcel on a Thursday, and by the following Tuesday, I received an e-mail to say that my parcel had arrived and my cheque was being dispatched that same day.
Overall I'm extremely impressed with Zapper. It is quite a lot of effort – for my current list I've been through 7 boxes of books so far and still am not at the £10 minimum, but I'm so happy to have found a site which pays for books.
